Transformer have become an inevitable part of our lives and in their efficient working, important role is played by the coil and therefore selection of proper coils is very crucial. Energy efficienttransformer manufacturers in India, Rajasthan Powergen use rectangular and elliptical coils as they work for certain standard applications and their construction requires high volume manufacturing processes.
Rectangular windings
will suit your demand if you have a standard distribution transformer which
is subjected to limited available fault
currents and is equipped with protection devices, subject to stable loading
with little or no variation, or is a small to medium sized transformer with
star connected primary and secondary winding.
Round coil design will
work when the transformer is "exposed" to higher levels of fault
currents, repeated events, high current requirements with lower designed
disturbances like motor starting. You should then buy a round coil design with a
layer wound and one with robust bracing encompassing heavy duty pressure plates
as they add axial stability to balance the strong physical forces which are
experienced during faults.
Roundcores utilise miter
cut, cruciform cores while wound cores are used with rectangular or elliptical
coils. Cruciform cores comprise of multiple width laminations which present a
round cross-section and largely fill the core window in the round coils when
assembled.Round coils with a cruciform core give superior
resistance to radial forces to which the transformer is subjected during faults
and severe duty cycles.
The round coil
construction has improved cooling which helps dissipate short circuit thermal
effects after the fault has cleared and the transformer resumes normal loading.
The improved cooling is a result of round coil construction as unlike wound
cores, cruciform cores together with specially designed upper and lower
pressure plates let the cooling fluid to flow throughout the coils thereby
reducing hot spots in the insulation system, which in turn leads to longer
transformer shelf life.
When you plan to
purchase larger transformers like 10 MVA and above, or higher BIL levels, 350
kV BIL and above, you should also take into account buying disc-wound, round
coils. The disc-wound design has all the benefits of layer wound round coils
with miter cut cruciform cores with additional and mechanical strength and
transient fault withstand capability.
In addition to this,
disc construction reduces electrical stresses within the coil which iscaused by
switching surges, lightening strikes, and voltage disturbances which frequently
occur in the network at higher voltage levels and seen by larger transformers.
The energy efficient
transformer manufacturers in India, Rajasthan Powergen go for round coil design as it is
best suited for most substation applications, all station transformer
applications, and for high-risk distribution transformer applications with an
overall lower total cost of ownership.
